Retouching

I retouched this photo of my mother that my granddad had taken when she little today. It was difficult as the photograph was larger than the scanner, so I used some redhead and pinned it up on a board to light and photograph it. I also did one my granddad had taken of himself, but it had very heavy blacks in it and the light produced a shine on it. Although I did okay with getting rid of the shine, I think need more practice with re-photographing things.

I remember when my mom and I found this photograph. We were cleaning out my grandmothers house after a hurricane and she told me that granddad used to wake her up in the middle of the night to take photos of her and her siblings.

Website, Travels and Festivals

I think I have finally got my site sorted out and almost finished. I have finally figured out how to upload a Wordpress theme, which I have linked to my site. Now all that is left to to learn how to configure it so it goes better with the rest of my site but also stands out as it will be updated often and will show my current project ideas. I also need to place my email on my site somewhere, but hopefully that will be easy (famous last words!). Which leaves my visual studies portfolio and essay, and my digital photography portfolio and essay. Also I got a light kit. Yay me!

University trip to Prague in November, also stopping in Cologne for two nights which will be awesome. And cold. Probably.

Like I mentioned in my last post, time at university is ticking away. It seems strange to think my first year is almost over. I feel that this year was a lot of technical learning while next year will challenge our creativity, it should be fun/interesting...

I am going to Gatecrasher Festival at the end of May. I am thinking of taking my beloved Polaroid camera which reminds me I need to buy some film for it.

It really annoys me that they are getting rid of Polaroid film. I know it seems unnecessary in this digital age, but there are some of us who are still in love with it. They could at least sell the license to another company and let them produce it. Although I have heard rumors that other companies are having trouble selling developing products. I hope that the ease of digital doesn't take too much away from the fun of seeing your photographs developed in the dark room. The darkroom always makes me feel better, I started to miss it during my year off. I also realize that I am sad for feeling this way!

Work Work Work

It's hard to believe this semester is almost over and that I will have finished my first year of university all ready. I feel like I have done nothing this year, hardly any photography anyways. I am doing more this semester than I did last for class. Not only do we have assessed projects but we also have ones that are not assessed to actually further our knowledge and make we know what we are doing.

Maybe I feel this way because I am actually learning something this semester rather going over things I have done before.

I have (pretty much) finished my website, just some last minute alterations that I hope don't mess up the whole thing to do. I am pretty proud of it considering I knew nothing of HTML or CSS until I started playing around in Dreamweaver.

Although I also have two portfolios to do for the end of May, only one is based in photography. The other is in Visual Studies which is, although fun, annoying too. I know there is a point to studying it but if I wanted to do art I would have studied Art. Besides, I can't draw to save my life!

I also had three essays this semester but one is done and one is an evaluation and the other is... well I'm not sure yet. We haven't got the questions yet.

It's all work, work, work, but there are rewards. More picture taking this time.
