Showtime

So I have set up my show at Jeffery West, and it look really good. Tomorrow they are having a Chirstmas event in the afternoon so I will be going along and taking some photos of my work there and talking to some people about my work that is on display. I am so pleased with the way the images look in the City shop. The rich and decadent style in the store really fit well with the images I have chosen from the Emancipated project. Also the fact that I really love the rock and roll fashion being sold there, and have a few purchases in mind (accessories though, not sure the men's shoes will fit me so well!). Another thing, I am going to the USA for six month next week. While I am there besides getting my driving lisence I will be travelling taking photos, exploring my home that I never grew up in. This trip is a chance for me to visit the country I am from while reconnecting with my family and friends who still live there. I'm planning on taking the photos on a film camera in black and white which means I will be able to process and develop the prints myself. I will also be taking my DSLR with me too to post some images on here and keep up to date with my adventures and interesting things. I have been looking at the work of Robert Frank, Joel Sternfeld, Walker Evans, William Eggleston, and Lee Friedlander. Robert Frank and Joel Sternfeld are two photographers whose work I have admired since I started studying photography in college. Walker Evans, William Eggleston, and Lee Friedlander are photographers who I was introduced to in university. These are all American documentry apart from Robert Frank who was born in Switzerland, but whose most notable book in The Americans, which looks at American society. The work I aim to produce will not only be a document of my trip to the USA and I suppose 'discovering' my roots again, but the images will also portray my feelings about travelling back to a country where I do not know many people and do not always feel like I belong, having lived away in London for so long.
