Florida
Well, I am at my dad's in Florida now and the weather is beautiful if not just a little chilly, but no where near as unbearable as it is in London right now. Now that I am out of university, it's very strange to be able to actually produce my own work at any length of time without someone looking over my shoulder constantly asking questions about what you are doing and why. I have mainly been working on things based around Pensacola, where I am living at the moment. Recently I was involved in an event in town called Art Party. This year saw the eighth party, and boy was it a party! The mission of the organiser Jef Bond was to create an event that showed the strange and darker art from residents of our sunny beach town, and to raise money for medical expenses that the unfortunately uninsured (growing up in England I do believe in public healthcare) incurred when one has to undergo an organ transplant, such as Jef did. Art Party VIII was a massive sucess in my eyes, not only was this event for a worthy cause but it also allowed people who live in the bible belt exhibit work which would rarely be allowed in town. As you can imagine with a town like Pensacola, a lot of the art is sold to tourists, or beachside condo owners who like the images of the sand dunes and bright and beautiful florwers. I know that myself I struggle to find places suitible even in London to exhibit my work. I am very lucky I am able to exhibit in such a location as the Jeffery West shop in Monument, as well as in events such as the Art Party.
