April part 2 - Texas

So we headed to Canyon Lake in Texas after spending one night in the French Quarter and one night at my Aunt's house. It was a seriously long drive the next day, we left at 9am and didnt arrive till 7pm, after stopping for lunch and needing to fill up gas 2 or 3 times. I have to admit that I fell in love with the Hill Country the moment we drove into it. I loved the open spaces and the rocks and dust and cacti everywhere, and when we got to the lake it was stunning.

We spent a week in Canyon Lake visiting the nearby towns. We went to San Antonio, Wimberly, Fredericksburg, Greune, San Marcos and also Rob and I spent one night in Austin, and went to LBJ Lake.

We saw the Alamo, dinosaur footprints, Gruene Dance Hall (which looks like somewhere the Kings of Leon should play and invite me), Sixth Street Austin, Capital Building, the Riverwalk, the Rio Grande and so much other stuff I can barely remember now. I just remember having such a great time with family and friends (cheesy I know!). And oh man! The food! We ate so much BBQ and Mexican food. It was unbelieveable, I don't think I could eat anymore BBQ for a few years at least, Mexican food though, I can always eat. I love them tacos good. Side note: if you are ever in Pensacola, Florida try Miguels, the puff tacos are amazing!

We left from Sunrise Beach on Lyndon B Johnson Lake where we stayed with some of my step-mom's family. It was a beautiful little community they had deer EVERYWHERE. It was slightly eerie to drive through the community at night with the reflection of the deers eyes in the headlights, or to turn a corner and suddenly there are 3 deer staring at you. Felt like The Birds or Black Sheep except with deer.

April part 1 - New Orleans

So this month is/has been a little crazy. I started working with my friend Byron, photographing some images for a website for him. It is an ongoing project at the moment so I do not want to share any of the photos until I have a complete set. He is starting an fashion organisnation based on military uniforms. The outfits looks good so far. I love the clean lines and the simple timeless elegance a uniform can give.

Robert came to visit me for a while in America. We ended up going to New Orleans overnight and then to Texas with some of my family. Since I had to work the day we left for New Orleans we didn't get there till about 8pm and once we settled in and went for dinner in the French Quater it was late and I was tired. But Rob having never been to the South and knowing Bourbon Street reputation wanted to have a few drinks on the imfamous road. Even though Mardi Gras was long over the spirit hadn't left and people were throwing beads from baloncies. Everyone is always in good spirits (har har, see what I did there?) on Bourbon St and I have been too since I gained a second wind and am not sure what happened after watching dueling pianos at the Howling Moon.

The next morning we treated our hangovers to a Jazz Brunch at The Court of Two Sisters. While I did enjoy brunch and listening to the Jazz the courtyard was much more pleasent at night with the tress lit by fairy lights but sadly we did not get the oppourtunity to dine there in the evening. Prehaps it was because it was cooler in the evening than sitting outside in the sun melting with my headache! Saying that, I could have sat there all day once it hit noon and I was able to have a pick me up, but we did some site seeing instead. We wandered all over the French Quarter and the Riverwalk, stopping at  Cafe du Monde for beignets. Rob was silly enough to try some 'Cold Blooded Killer' hot sauce at the French Market that about blew his head off. His eyes started watering and his face went red, I wish I had taken a photo but I was laughing too hard!

The next day we left for Texas, and man that was one long drive. 13 hours in a car, I'm not sure how Rob stayed sane driving all that way (I'm still learning to drive) but I about went stir crazy a few times!
